Quiz Bowl: The Musical - January Zoom Reading

Happy New Year!

Many moons ago, a show I wrote the music for was brought to life at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). That show was ‘Academia Nuts’, and while NYMF is sadly no longer with us the show lives on under a new moniker.

‘Quiz Bowl: The Musical’ is essentially everything Academia Nuts was, but with a new finale and some tweakages to reflect changing times. The wonderful students at the New York Film Academy are currently in rehearsals ready for a Zoom presentation of the show on January 23rd.

Thanks to the hardworking team at NYFA for overcoming the logistical nightmare that is prepping a musical for the world of online presentation!

If you don’t know the show take a peak at the video below!

Seasonal Things!

Well, we’ve nearly made it through this clusterf**k of a year… And so it’s time to celebrate with seasonal offerings!

New Podcast(s)

Very pleased to announce I’ve been working on custom music for a couple of podcasts, the first of which is out now!

Project Pulso is a non-profit media start up that shares news, history, and cultural stories, for Latinos, by Latinos. Their new podcast is available on all the usual platforms. Here’s the link for Google - that’s how I consume my podcasts.

More episodes of this to come, and watch out for announcements about other new shows I’m writing for!

Season's Greetings!

It’s that time of year again! And this year you can listen to a full ‘radio play’ version of of my Christmas musical comedy ‘Snow Way Out’ to keep the winter chills at bay (unless you live in the Southern Hemisphere, in which case go to the beach…)

Recorded by The Micro Musical Theatre Show the podcast is the full show complete with a live band and runs to 72 minutes.

Listen to a teaser, or download the full show here. Please support this wonderful company who help bring new musicals to a wider audience than is physically possible in brick-and-mortar theaters. They are good people, great to work with, and they need your support to keep up their good work!

Here’s the blurb:

Four strangers rent a rustic cabin each hoping for a solitary holiday. But everyone’s antisocial plans are frozen when an unforeseen blizzard leave them trapped in the same cabin.  A blackout, holiday spirits, and mysterious body bag converge to prove that even if you do escape your family, no one escapes Christmas. Starring Max Crumm Disaster!, Grease), Lance Roberts (My Fair Lady, Sunset Boulevard), and Dee Hoty (Footloose, Mama Mia!) among others. There’s SNOW WAY OUT!

Becca Blackmore and Dan Marshall (Book & Lyrics)
Julian Blackmore (Composer)

The Shallow End

Back in February (when we still were excited about Game Of Thrones) I was asked to write some music for a short film. Set in the 80s the director wanted music that reflected ‘the sunny glow of Reagan’s America’, which resulted in much guilty-pleasure research listening.

Fast forward to this month and the film is a selection in the Adirondack Film Festival later this month, and the Indie Memphis Film Festival early next month.

It’s a beautifully shot film, directed by Cynthia Silver and written by Wendy MacLeod. Check out the trailer here.
